    MANAGING EDITOR

    Charlotte Crawford is a spirited Kansas native whose journey took her from the heartland to bustling New Jersey, to suburban Chicago, to lush Tennessee.

    Drawing inspiration from the windswept prairies of her homeland, where hot summer winds cause you to gasp and icy winter snowstorms barricade kitchen doors, Charlotte's roots run deep, intertwining with the fabric of Kansas life and family bonds.

    Charlotte's passion for empowering women and girls has garnered her accolades, propelling her to promote their voices and stories. From sparking imaginative works from schoolchildren to co-writing the acclaimed "Tennessee Women of Vision and Courage" with Ruth Johnson Smiley, to her role as managing editor at Post Rock Press, she has promoted the power of storytelling, encouraging individuals of all ages to immortalize their experiences, opinions, and local histories in print.

  • Clare Crawford

    WEB CONSULTANT

    With over two decades of expertise, Clare Crawford is an experienced web developer renowned for her proficiency in designing and coding standards-based, accessible websites. Her extensive experience spans education and non-profit sectors, where she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to creating responsive sites. Clare's toolkit includes WordPress, hand-coded HTML, and custom PHP and CSS, and she possesses a keen eye for design, having worked with Photoshop and Illustrator. Moreover, her knowledge extends to addressing SEO and accessibility concerns.

    As a freelancer, Clare showcases her recent projects on her online portfolio, illustrating her adaptability and creativity. Prior to her freelance endeavors, she contributed significantly as a web developer at Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), a global nonprofit organization.

    Clare also excels in troubleshooting both computer and web-related issues, bringing a comprehensive skill set to her work. Her academic background includes an EdM in Technology in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a BA summa cum laude, in Linguistics from Harvard University. Clare's commitment to the intersection of technology and education is evident in her impressive career and academic achievements.

  • Ruth Johnson Smiley

    EDITOR

    Dr. Ruth Johnson Smiley, an accomplished scholar, started her academic journey with doctoral research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her professional path led her to Oak Ridge Associated Universities, where she authored technical reports and contributed to publications in professional journals. Following her interest in education, she has taught economics at Pellissippi State Community College.

    Dr. Smiley's outstanding contributions have earned her accolades including the Award for Excellence, Equity, and Equality from the Tennessee Economic Council on Women. Her commitment to societal betterment extends to being a finalist in the Knoxville YWCA’s Tribute to Women and recognition as a civil rights advocate by the Tennessee Human Rights Commission.

    A proud native of Tennessee, Dr. Smiley has researched her family history and contributed to the First Families of Tennessee project of the East Tennessee Historical Society.

    Known for her meticulous attention to detail, Dr. Smiley serves as a set of eagle eyes on manuscripts, ensuring precision and excellence. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics as well as a BS and MS in Economics from the University of Tennessee, reflecting her commitment to scholarly pursuits and her home state.
